SOUL LABOR is…
The INTENTIONAL act of putting deep personal effort, passion,
and care into one’s work.
“Soul Labor is an antidote to feelings of anti-joy and emotional and psychological lassitude” – J. Joy Davis
SOUL LABOR BEGINS WITH SELF LABOR
Soul Labor is the foundation for being able to give your best to your
work and to others… to have the energy and clarity to put your whole heart into what you do through Self Labor.

Workshops
Soul Labor as Self Labor:
If not NOW, then WHEN?
If not US, then WHO?
Nurture yourself.Soul Labor is the foundation for being able to give your best to your work and to others… to have the energy and clarity to put your whole heart into what you do through Self Labor. NOW WHAT? Tend to your inner self.
Healing and nurturing your soul through self labor isn’t about achieving perfection, but about tending to your inner world with compassion;
So you cannot only heal, but create the inner resources necessary to carry on with your work from a place of wholeness.
Soul Labor as Course Labor:
Soul Labor suggests that a student is investing more than just time and energy—they are engaging with the material on a profound level, bringing their creativity, values, and personal growth into the learning process.
This kind of effort leads to transformative learning experiences, where the student not only gains knowledge but also grows emotionally and intellectually.
When Soul Labor is not implemented “we are fostering a patriarchal classroom setting – one fraught with fear, disengagement and intellectual apathy” – bell hooks (1994)
